Abstract | Based on B and V CCD photometry of Sextans A to limits V = 22, B = 23.5, systematic errors are found in the B and V photometry of Sandage and Carlson (1985) (SC) and that of Hoessel, Schommer and Danielson (1983). The mean absolute V magnitudes of the three brightest red and blue stars are found to be -7.6 and -7.4, respectively; the corresponding B magnitudes are -5.8 and -7.4. A new Cepheid distance modulus for Sextans A of 26 + or - 0.4 mag is proposed. Results suggest that the SC results for the Sextans A Cepheids and supergiants place these stars too faint in B by about 0.2 mag. |
