Abstract | The Hubble expansion rate is found to be about 55 km/sec/Mpc from each of three samples: nearby bright spiral galaxies, the Virgo cluster alone, and remote Sc I galaxies. The agreement of the three rates shows that there is no measurable velocity anisotropy in the mean velocity field of nearby spiral galaxies and that there is no systematic variation of the Hubble constant with distance. The angular properties of the velocity field along the supergalactic longitude coordinate are investigated. It is concluded that the local velocity field, mapped with the present material, is as regular, linear, and isotropic as one can measure it. |
