| Abstract | A search has been made for H I emission from 17 elliptical galaxies, with limits of less than 10 set on the gas content in some cases. Two new detections of H I in elliptical galaxies are reported. H I has also been searched for in the central giant ellipticals and other early-type galaxies of the Coma cluster, without success. The observational results are consistent with continuous sweeping of gas from the ellipticals by a self-generated galactic wind.
