Abstract | A total of 1171 galaxies were detected out of a sample of 1787 nearby galaxies observed in the 21 cm line with the NRAO 91 m and 43 m telescopes, and the Bonn 100 m telescope. The radio observations provide an accurate heliocentric velocity, an H I flux, and a line profile width for each galaxy detected. After a reduction of the optical magnitudes, dimensions and morphological types from the literature to a common system and their tabulation, the intrinsic luminosities, dimensions, H I masses, and total masses are determined under the assumption of distances derived from the redshift. It is concluded that the sample presented is complete for galaxies (1) with systemic velocities lower than 1000 km/sec; (2) of types Sc and later; and (3) having Holmberg diameters greater than 3 arcmin. |
