| Abstract | The authors have obtained CCD observations of ≡50 blue compact dwarf galaxies (BCD's) from the list of Thuan and Martin. They use the CCD material to propose a classification scheme for BCD's based on the regularity of the isophotal shapes of both the high-surface-brightness star-forming regions and the low-surface-brightness outer regions. They can divide BCD's into 4 types. The most common type has several star-forming regions near the center embedded in an elliptical or circular halo of light. Details of the surface photometry of two BCD's of different types (Haro 2 and Mrk 86) are discussed. |
