| Abstract | CCD BV photometry of 77 stars in DDO 187 is presented. From the brightest blue and red supergiants a distance modulus of μ = 28.2 +/- 0.6 has been derived, which therefore places DDO 187 out of the Local Group, at a distance of 4.4 +/- 1.0 Mpc. As well, DDO 187 probably is a field galaxy since its membership to its nearest groups of galaxies is very unlikely. The form of its colour-magnitude diagram looks similar to the upper part of that of Sextans A, but apparently less populated. The star formation rate of massive stars in DDO 187 is smaller than that in Sextans A. |
