| Abstract | A color, magnitude diagram of Cluster 1 in Fornax is presented. From the morphology of the CMD, we conclude that the cluster is metal poor. Its distance, estimated from the apparent magnitude of its horizontal branch, is (m - M)_v_ = 20.76 or 132 kpc for E (B-V) = 0.05, comparable to previously estimated distances of Fornax. Cluster 1 belongs to the class of metal-poor systems having a red horizontal branch. If interpreted in terms of an age effect, we conclude that Cluster 1 is an intermediate-age cluster possibly formed when the numerous intermediate-age population of Fornax was formed. |
