Abstract | The relation between the absolute magnitude and the central velocity dispersion (a kind of Faber-Jackson relation) of individual galactic globular clusters is used to determine the distance modulus of two galaxies (LMC and NGC 224 = M31) for which the velocity dispersion of some of their globular clusters can be measured. The result is in good agreement with previous determinations and shows that this relation can constitute a good way to use individual globular clusters as extragalactic distance indicators. |
