Search Objects Near a Name, Position, or IAU Style

Choose the type of search you want to perform (Near Name, Near Position, or IAU Search) and an optional redshift constraint (Unconstrained, Available, Unavailable, Larger Than, Less Than, Between).

Near Name Search: enter the object name and search radius (default is 1 arcmin). Then press "Go".

Near Position Search: enter the coordinates and search radius (default is 1 arcmin). Choose the coordinate system and equinox. Then press "Go".

Examples of supported coordinate formats are

  • 09h55m52.7s +69d40m46s
  • 09:55:52.7 +69:40:46
  • 09 55 52.7 +69 40 46
  • 148.969687d 69.679383d

IAU Search: Enter the IAU-style name to find objects by position. Choose the coordinate system and equinox. Then press "Go".

Examples of IAU formats:

  • HHMM+DD (e.g., 0955+69)
  • HHMM+DDd (e.g., 0955+696)
  • HHMMd+DDd (e.g., 09558+696)
  • HHMMd+DDMM (e.g., 09558+6940)
  • HHMMSS+DDMMd (e.g., 095552+69407)

Note: d denotes the decimal part of preceding element, can be up to 3 digits after the decimal point. NED has kept B1950.0 as the default equinox for IAU searches to remain consistent with IAU naming conventions.
